THE BEHIND POSTS [II.06] (Miscellaneous)

This week: Change v. Saints; Koch; China; Port’s dumb footy; and Abblet’s “three strikes and you’re out” rule. Bonus: John Cleese’s “London is not English” controversy.

Innovative Line-Up

Watch out what you wish for.” Forget what I have said about drastic changes. We certainly did it this week. I cannot complain about that! I simply cannot grasp what we are trying to do. It certainly has increased my interest on the game.

There are three outs. Two of those, Ladhams and Rockliff, we already knew. Lycett is back; and Rockliff is injured. It makes sense.

Now, the third out and the other two ins are odd. Frampton was dropped, and the players called up were Burton and Bonner.
I am assuming Doog should be a forward this weekend. He must be, otherwise, I have no idea what we are doing.

I already don’t understand much what we are doing. Does anyone have a clue on why Drew is out? This season, we have played FIVE consecutive games with Boak, SPP, Rockliff, Wines, and Drew in the lineup. That is five games with five inside-mids.

Now, we are going to play against the Saints with only two – three, if we include Robbie Gray (who played in four of those five games, by the way). Congratulations, Hinkley. You have gotten my attention! Let’s see what you have prepared for us.

This Week's Milestone

This is the first time that Cameron Sutcliffe does NOT play for the Power.

Koch’s Reign

I am here since yesterday, but last season was enough for me. The more I think about, the more it seems Koch has reached his ceiling. I am certain he would love to give us more than he actually does. I don't believe he is capable of doing it, though.

China and Us

I love the idea of getting into China, but I don't think we are executing it as well as we could.

We should have a local office, with a mix of Port and local people. We should have been more aggressive commercially — looking for serious sponsors. We should have one or two Chinese cat-B rookies in our list.

We also should have embraced China fullheartedly: Chinese website; Chinese logo; Chinese-inspired clash guernsey; China-themed home game (with Chinese authorities, members of their economic elite, artists, etc.); special Chinese membership plan; and so on. Why haven’t we done all this already?

Dumb Football

We kick low to talls, and high to triple-teamed smalls. We are always handballing when to kick and kicking when to handball; kicking short when to kick long and kicking long when to kick short; holding the ball when should be aggressive and taking unnecessary risks when should be holding the ball. There are so many questions...

Our structure and strategy do not seem to respect the players we have. We play dumb football. We melt under pressure. This is a leadership issue. Obviously, players are responsible. But who is asking them to do what they cannot deliver?
Both coaches and players are responsible. Hinkley is simply on the top.

The Untouchables, starring Gary Ablett Jr.

* Saturday: “Abblet strikes Miles

Third week in a row and escalating. Still, ...
Vic Media: "Nothing to see here"
Gill: "Nothing to see here"
MRO: "Nothing to see here"
NEXT WEEK: Ablett plays carrying a firearm.

* Monday: “Abblet has been offered an one-match ban…”

In other news, snow falls over Alice's Springs; there is peace in the Middle East; GremioPower is now a Crow. It is Bizarro Day!

* Later: “Geelong have decided not to challenge Ablett's strike ban

Word is out that Ablett was seeking a rest, but the AFL kept denying him that!

Bonus: “London is not English” (John Cleese)

John Cleese twitted that “London was not really an English city anymore.” He is coping with plenty of criticism, but what does he mean by “English?” Someone commented that people don’t speak English on the streets, but that is not the main issue.

Migrants may keep their language (and other customs), while mingling with the society of which they are now a part. After all, "retain that which is good" is fine, but only if you are open to "prove all things." (1Tess 5:21)

Through your effort to integrate, you can even give back something yours to improve it. That's how migrants help societies getting better.
The problem over there is that the new migrants are not becoming English. They want to remain foreigners. They don't want to "exchange" anything, but impose their "foreignerness" upon their hosts.

That's absurd. However, European "multiculturalism" is not about exchange or about mingling. Thus, it has no answer against this kind of problem.
