THE BEHIND POSTS [II.06] (Miscellaneous)

This week: Change v. Saints; Koch; China; Port’s dumb footy; and Abblet’s “three strikes and you’re out” rule. Bonus: John Cleese’s “London is not English” controversy.   ---- Innovative Line-Up “ Watch out what you wish for. ” Forget what I have said about drastic changes. We certainly did it this week. I cannot complain about that! I simply cannot grasp what we are trying to do. It certainly has increased my interest on the game. There are three outs. Two of those, Ladhams and Rockliff, we already knew. Lycett is back; and Rockliff is injured. It makes sense. Now, the third out and the other two ins are odd. Frampton was dropped, and the players called up were Burton and Bonner. I am assuming Doog should be a forward this weekend. He must be , otherwise, I have no idea what we are doing. I already don’t understand much what we are doing. Does anyone have a clue on why Drew is out? This season, we have played FIVE consecutive games with Boak, SPP, Rockliff, Wines,

Should I Break Up With My Head Coach? (Port 49 - 80 Hawthorn)

Today, I am asking Hinkley to go. However, this will be the last time. I won’t argue on why we should fire him after this week. It wasn’t good writing what I just did. This subject can return, eventually, in “The Behind Posts;” but not in a game review.   --- Last weekend, it took the Magpies three quarters to finally start playing against Glenelg. The Power, at least, took only one. Both teams lost; which shouldn’t be surprising after such low starts. Power and Magpies are currently outside the Finals on their respective ladders. This cannot be mere coincidence. There is a problem that permeates the club as a whole. Those are not isolated facts. On our trip to Tasmania, saying that we didn’t play well against the Hawks would be an understatement. It was basically a rerun of our loss against Collingwood; which makes the matter even worse. Haven’t we learned anything? At all? It doesn’t seem like it. Look our changes for the China game, for instance. Lycett is back in; a

This week: Hinkley to North; Frampton; Port Rising Up; Robbie, Jonas, and the Maggies; and Extra Finals Round. Bonus: Latino v Hispanic in US Law. ---- Hinkley to North No, not Siberia. Please, I like the guy. “North” is North Melbourne FC. It is probably a good idea. There are coaches really good in putting houses back in order, and Hinkley seems to be one. He also seems to be a players’ coach, and this could help North bring in some talent. This idea could be the best for all parts involved. I mean, all but Polec and Pittard, probably. Oh, well… ---- Playing Frampton It took to long for Frampton to be called up both this season and the last. On this, someone has said: “ Last season, people were calling for Frampton to be selected as a ruck. No one called for him to be selected as a key forward. ” That’s true, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Meanwhile, Dixon, who isn't a ruck either, was getting murdered. The problem was always the structure. It i

Better Late Than Never (Port 89 - 51 Suns)

It has been a busy time, but that is not an excuse. This week was the first time I didn't published on the blog. It has hurt me more than it should. This is how motivated I am with our team at the moment. I would love to understand what is going on, but people better than me seem also clueless. What can I do? Here, my comments on the game against GC, the season so far, and some ideas on the Magpies. The recap on the Hawks will come next, eventually. --- Port won. After 2.5 quarters of struggle, our team finally imposed itself over the Suns and got a comfortable victory. It was our best win by percentage this season. It was also our 10 th consecutive victory over the Suns, the first time we managed such a streak since joining the AFL. No one got injured or suspended. Ok. That’s the full recap. Now, onto Tasmania and the Hawks. Living Up to the Standards Round 9 marks the end of the first part of the season for me. We have finished it with a 5-4 record; one fewer win

This week in “The Behind Posts:” a logo and a mascot for 2020; AFL umpires and the MRO; Port’s identity; and the Showdown. --- A NEW LOGO FOR PORT? In our quest for an identity, the main question is how we save our great past by connecting it to our bad recent past, our present, and our future. There is no turning back the clock. We cannot deny that 1997-2018 has happened, and its now part of the Port Adelaide Football Club. We cannot deny our situation in 2019. We must act considering everything or we will fail. We don't need to give up our past. We should fight for our heritage unrelentlessly. However, we are not independent. We need to convince people. We need recover our bond with our great past in a way that is acceptable for those who actually decide upon these sort of stuff. We need something that allow us to fight for our heritage without fading, without breaking; i.e., something that is already strongly bonded to it, but not overtly enough to call much attenti
